Islamic/Shariah mutual funds are funds that are compliant to the principles of the Muslim religion. These funds exclude investments in companies that derive a majority of their income from the alcohol business, pork products, pornography, gambling and weapons manufacturers. An annual audit by the Shariah board is conducted to prohibit income from interest and the same is donated in charity. Though this fund was conceptualized in the 60’s it gained popularity around 2003.
